Alrighty so I've always known how to do braids pretty much my whole life(yes, I was doing them in the womb...) J/K lol Seriously, I was doing french braids since I was in 2nd grade. I saw a mom that came in to volunteer in our classroom do her daughters hair in a french braid. I was so mesmorized! I went home that day begging my mom to do one in my hair, but to my dismay, my mom had no idea how... I was so bummed.
However, not all hope was lost. That next week, the same mom returned to our class and I again saw her braid her daughter's hair. I oh so badly wanted to learn! Here's my dilemma... I didn't care too much for the girl whose mom was oh so talented! But I decided that it was not going to stop me.
Sure, Sure. I could've have just gotten on the computer and You-Tubed-It... BUT... I don't believe You Tube was even founded yet. And if had been, it wasn't popular enough and there was no way my mother would allow me on it.
Anyway, back to my determination! I gathered my nerves and approached the mom of the wicked witch of the west and asked her " Miss... I have been watching you braid your daughter's hair and I can't help but be curious, can you teach me do that?" (and no, my grammar was totally not that cool, but if it was... :D)
She told me " ABSOLUTELY!"
I could've been the happiest little girl at that moment! But it gets better! She showed me once, and I instantly got it! After that I wanted to french braid everything in sight! I french braided until my little fingers were callused.
As I grew, so did my knowledge of braids. How many different kinds, directions they could be manipulated and the creativity that lies hidden.
Fast forward to present day!
I just recently learned the five strand and I have fallen in love with braiding all over again! And to my glorious wonder, there is a 7-strand, 9-strand, and even goes up to 32-strand(which looks someone got a basket weaved on their head). I can't wait to learn more!
